7 Ways To Cleanse Your Mind (Mind Detox)

In life, a lot is required of us. Just mere being alive requires a lot of our mental energy. There are a lot of standards to live up to, goals to achieve, timelines to meet, and expectations to live up to. All these can make us lose focus of our mental health. We might forget to take care of ourselves.

Our bodies need some detox sometimes to help us get rid of toxins, improve our health, and feel refreshed. The same goes for our minds. Detox is needed to help us:

  1. Attain mental and emotional stability
  2. Decrease stress and fatigue
  3. Figure out ways to balance our lives.
  4. Live in the present and enjoy every moment.
  5. Improve both our mental and physical health.
  6. It helps us think and make the right decisions
  7. It’s important when you feel overwhelmed and over-committed
  8. It helps decrease the risk of mistakes and errors
  9. Generally, it helps you find peace and happiness with life

“What’s the most effective detox program? Distancing yourself from self-destructive thoughts, behaviors, and people.”

― Charles F Glassman

When you detox your mind, you are able to zoom in and focus on the most important things rather than working aimlessly.

We have to come to a place where we realize that we become what we pay attention to. We grow and learn through our experiences, what we invest our time into, and the things we take in.

To prevent all these hazards and live a more fulfilled life, the processes of un-cluttering and detoxing your mind should be considered.

Ways To Cleanse Your Body And Mind

1.  Always be grateful

Be thankful and appreciative for the journey thus far. Sometimes all we do is see the challenges in front of us without even looking back to see how far we have come.

Gratitude is very powerful and it makes room for more. Being grateful for family, friends, strangers and everyone that has made your journey thus far worthwhile, finances, wisdom, and most of all, the strength to keep pushing. Doing this, will help you feel better emotionally and appreciate the blessings you always receive.

2. Let Go

Let go and forgive. Forgive yourself and forgive others. Yeah, you missed out on that great opportunity last year and probably you might not get it back; Do not beat yourself so hard!!!

Detoxing helps you think and reflect on your responses and goals in life, and who or what may be in the way of achieving these goals? Are you angry, hurt, or unable to let go of a past experience? I think it’s time to let go. Release yourself and forgive others in order to create space for something new which could be a new mindset, job, relationship, emotion, responsibility, commitment, etc.

What is standing on the way to your success, peace, and happiness. It’s time to let go!!!

“Letting go doesn't mean that you don't care about someone anymore. It's just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.”

3. Spend more time outside/nature.

Research shows that spending time in nature has significant health and wellness benefits.

  • Spending time in nature has also been found to help with mental health problems including anxiety and depression.
  • It also helps us gain clarity and relax – which is very important when you need to focus and re-strategize.
  • Natural environments improve our memory, cognitive flexibility and increase our attention span.
  • It also decreases stress

Even the sounds of nature may be very relaxing and refreshing.

4. Track how much time you spend online.

You can download apps that record and track the time you spend online and on social media. Now, this feature has been added to most of our gadgets so we can easily keep track of time and cut down where necessary. When you look at these numbers, you will be amazed and this can challenge you to make a decision to change.

It is not so much about how much you spend online but what you do there. Asides spending so much time online, are you being productive while at it? Time is a very essential factor that must be utilized very well in order to get the best results.

Detoxing in this case might be avoiding those sites and apps that can fill your mind with evil thoughts, lower your self-esteem, affect your mental health, or make you feel worthless.

6. Meditate

A new study has suggested that an average person has about 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts each day. You may even find it difficult to fall asleep immediately after you go to bed simply because the brain still has some thought going through it.

It’s easy for the mind to have many random thoughts and as such, get lost and distracted from priorities. Meditation is an effective way to detox the mind, helping it focus on more important things. This way, you pay less attention to distracting and non-beneficial thoughts that enter your mind.

7. Create a mental picture

Imagination is very helpful. Most times we are consumed with the thoughts of uncertainties. Will it work? Will it not work? It’s time we start using our vision and not our sight!!!!!

How does imagination help us detox? Most times, we are very stressed by the uncertainties but having a mental picture of what you want to achieve in life might also be your safe place. With that, you have peace knowing that it’s achievable.

The power of imagination created the illusion that my vision went much farther than the naked eye could actually see. –

Nelson Mandela

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

– Albert Einstein

We are the creators and artists of our lives and imagination helps us see farther than our mere eyes!!!
