Let’s reflect! How was last year? Were you able to accomplish the goals you set for yourself?
Do you feel like you could have done a better job?
Did you make plans that didn’t pull through? Maybe because of finances, a change of heart, or lack of motivation? I guess it didn’t go perfectly for us all.
I believe that every new year is a new chapter; a blank page to write something new. It’s not just about the resolutions but it’s more about the zeal to keep pushing.
I’m sure we had stuff we needed or planned to accomplish last year and there were some we did accomplish and those we didn’t.
Here are a few things you need to hold onto this new year…
1. Try not to repeat the same mistakes you made last year:
I can’t remember where exactly I heard this saying from but it goes thus;
“It’s only a fool that makes the same move over and over again and expect a different result.”
This doesn’t mean that you should give up completely on your goals and aspiration but always try to figure out why it didn’t work out the first time and improve on it.
2. Be passionate about what you want to accomplish:
I have observed that we start the year with so much passion and fire but as we begin to get towards the middle of the year we start forgetting our plans and lose our sense of purpose. Probably because things aren’t going exactly as planned. Passion drives us, but more than that, it makes us feel that we have a purpose in our lives. Don’t just give up in the middle of the fight.
If one path seems not to be working, try another approach. The moment you let negativity creep in, it takes away that fire making you feel weak and lazy.
3. Understand the importance of people:
The people you surround yourself with or the people you meet can be the ladder to help us climb to the heights we want to attain. There must be chemistry. You must at least like the person because you’ll need to be able to work together to get the most out of your friendship. The main aim of this type of relationship is to make your job, studies, and life more fun and enriching.
Good teamwork provides a diversity of thought, creativity, different perspectives, opportunities, and problem-solving approaches
4. Learn from peoples experiences and take good advice
I know most times I listen less and speak more which is a bad habit I’m working on. By engaging with your colleagues, peers, and mentors, and listening to their advice, suggestion, and feedback, you will not only gain a holistic perspective but it will prevent you from walking inside a bubble. This will also help you build a network of friends and cheerleaders!
Listening to other people’s experiences will help you shape your own point of view and prevent you from making mistakes you might regret.
5. Understand that you are not in competition with anyone:
I think one of the challenges I had last year was trying to rush things. I wanted everything to work with speed. I didn’t want to wait because others were moving forward but I came to understand that God works with us differently but in the end, He perfects everything that concerns us.
THERE IS NO COMPETITION. The only thing you owe yourself is to work on improving yourself daily and ensure that every day brings you closer to a better you.
6. Don’t let the stuff that didn’t work out stop you from setting new goals and accomplishing more:
I’m sure we already know that despite all the plannings, new year resolutions, and goals we set, some things won’t just work out. Some for the best, others due to lack of proper planning or you simply didn’t put in your best. But despite all that learn to set new goals, increase your momentum, and push yourself to achieve more.
The world is filled with endless opportunities waiting to be grasped and taken advantage of. Learn to see these opportunities presented and make the best out of them
7. Depend less on people:
It’s not a bad idea to depend on people but be very careful. Try not to put all your trust in one person because we are still humans trying to be better. No one is perfect yet, so expect flaws.
-Don’t forget to rest, relax, have fun and seek medical attention whenever you feel down.
I just want to say a happy new year to you all. Thank you for always reading my blog..
